Interview with Forever the Sickest Kids, April 24 2009

On Saturday, April 24, I was granted the opportunity to conduct a brief interview with the members of Forever the Sickest Kids before their Cleveland show on the Bamboozle Roadshow. Jonathan Cook was the first person to show up, and as the questions continued to be asked, the rest of the band members appeared one by one (Kent Garrison, then Marc Stewart, next was Caleb Turman, followed by Austin Bello, and finally Kyle Burns made an appearance). Hilarity ensues.

ShootTheScene: What is your favorite cheesy pick up line?
Jonathan Cook: "Are those space pants? Because your butt is out of this world."

STS: What item is a staple of survival while you're on tour?
Marc Stewart: We have a frog, but it's a special frog. We put water into it, and in return it breathes water out...it's a brand of humidifier. The air is really dry on our bus.

STS: What bands have inspired you, and who are some of the people that have had the biggest impact on you and your work?
Kyle Burns: None of these guys (gestures to the rest of the band).
Jonathan Cook: Dirk Nowitzki, Mercy Mercedes, and The Eiffel.

STS: How has your music evolved since you first began playing together?
Caleb Turman: You know Pokemon? We've grown a tail. Like, when Pokemon evolve to the third stage they grow tails. That's us.

STS: How do you keep yourselves entertained on tour?
Jonathan Cook: I'm very glad you asked, because last night after the show I just kicked back and watched the Mavericks game with my buddies. I'd also like to have on the record that the Mavericks are leading their series right now.
Kyle Burns: Call of Duty.

STS: What has your favorite tour been so far?
Jonathan Cook: This one! We've all hung out and just meshed together.

STS: What plans do you have for upcoming tours?
Jonathan Cook: The PGA tour, we're going to be the announcers.
Marc Stewart: Yep, the PGA Warped Tour. All summer long. And we can't tell you that we're about to go on a headlining tour.
Jonathan Cook: Yeah, we definitely can't tell you that we have a headlining tour with The White Tie Affair coming up.

STS: When can we expect a new album from you?
Kyle Burns: Thirty years from now.
Marc Stewart: Tomorrow.
Jonathan Cook: Somewhere in the near future.
Caleb Turman: Between tomorrow and thirty years from now, yeah.

STS: Final question: what is the most embarrassing thing you have ever done at a show?
Jonathan Cook: A few nights ago I accidentally told kids to do Ecstasy.
Kent Garrison: It's on YouTube.
Jonathan Cook: I told kids to go out after the show and do X, and I crossed my arms to make an X, and I meant like a fill-in-the-blank kind of thing, but it came out wrong.

Jonathan Cook: One thing you did not ask, that I want to make a point of, is that Texas' state bird is the mockingbird.
